Kolonaki

After sleeping for 12 hours last night, it was time to get up and go to orientation, which was just a bunch of people talking to us about various aspects of CYA.  Not a good way to start the second day in Athens while jest lagged.  At least they had food there.  After the intro we came back for siesta which many people in the city observe.  Most shops and cafes are closed for siesta from 2-6.  It's nice though as we need naps to get caught up on sleep.

We went on a tour of Kolonaki--the area where my apartment is--to find out where banks and grocery stores are.  It seems like every other store is a coffee shop.  Greeks apparently drink a frappe with everything.  They also sit in these shops all day long.  According to Nadia, director of student affairs, the coffee is expensive because you pay for a seat and can sit there all day long.  Nadia would also point out where not to go, either because it was too expensive or not very good.  She made sure we knew not to buy bread at a local bakery because the bread is frozen then warmed up, not homemade.  She also went in to buy a lottery ticket.

The apartments here are very spacious and I will include pics of them when I can get some with the sun shining.  Other than that I have a few pictures of the view from the CYA academic center and from the street where I live.
